HTML5, CSS3, Wordpress and Embracing the Responsive Web Design

Ironwulf En Route 2012 Responsive Design I’ve been out of the loop from the Web Design Industry for a few years now. Prior to my photography and blogging, I was busy working as a web and graphic designer . If you followed Ironwulf.net En Route in its early years, all of the template designs were done by me from the ground up. The earlier versions even got local recognition as one of the Best Designed Filipino Blog in 2007 and internationally as part of the 45 Beautiful and Creative WordPress designs from SixRevisions in 2008 . But changes in technology have transformed the landscape of Web Design, now we are not only designing for native desktop browsers but also multiple platforms like mobile devices or flat screen TVs to try to make them compatible. Gone are the days when our only worry is to make our designs look consistent in different browsers. Keeping Up to Date So I decided it was time to catch-up with what’s new. My site Ironwulf En Route has seen incremental desi...

Dispatch: On Assignment at North Sulawesi

Overlooking The City of Manado, North Sulawesi I just got back from North Sulawesi , a region in Indonesia I never really heard of before, until I was tasked to cover a Media Fam-Tour for a magazine. It’s a lot closer to the Philippines on a map but took ages to get there. Unfortunately, I can’t share much yet in terms of photos and details, instead of some instagram photos from my phone (you can follow me at instagram, @ironwulf) but it’s a pretty interesting place. While there, we bwere also closely monitoring what’s happening in Manila, especially with the floods caused by heavy rains. There are still places that needs help, I recommend going directly to the organizations doing hands-on work. There’s a Google Resource for Philippine Related Floods or contact any charity groups you’re helping out, in my case, there’s WorldVision Philippines .

Tracking Travel Expenses with Toshl Finance

Toshl Finance App Budget conscious travellers like me meticulously list down expenses while traveling. Traditionally, I jot them down on a notebook by the end of the day. But I must admit, the advent of smartphones have changed my documenting habits. While I still do list them down occasionally, my process has become much easier since I started using Toshl Finance App .

Buffalo 4-Port Stick Colors: USB Hub in Style

Buffalo Stylish USB Hub Stick Computer peripherals doesn’t always have to look dull and mechanical right? While I was looking for a nice USB-hub for the MacMini (yeah having the hub at the back of the unit can be a hassle), these stick USB-Hubs caught my eye, particularly by its simple and stylish design. It’s the Buffalo 4-Port USB Stick Colors edition, a MAC OS and Windows compatible which is better.

Columbia Ice Tee | The First Shirt that Cools You Down while Sweating

The Columbia Ice Tee Now here’s something heavy sweaters would welcome in a tropical country like the Philippines, a T-shirt that literally cools you down when you heat-up and sweat. Columbia Sporstwear recently introduced their new  Omni-Freeze ZERO technology in their Ice Tee Shirts . The wicking polyester base of the shirt contains thousands of hydrophilic polymer rings which expands like a doughnut as it absorbs moisture as sweat is distributed into the shirt. Test have shown that it is 10 degrees cooler on the wearer’s skin than a typical t-shirt cloth. I’m an avid Columbia Sportswear consumer and I’m excited for this technology to be here in the PHL where it can be hot and humid. it would be very useful for travel. But then again, the US$60 may make me think twice. Update (5th Aug 2012): Found out the shirts are available locally already for P2990. Source: PopSci

Kata DL C-Strap: Designed for Mirrorless

The Kata DL C-Strap Personally, I hate using camera neck straps. I find them suffocating, strangling and simply annoys me when the camera is dangling in front of me. But at times I do find the need to use one, depending on the camera bag I use. When I have a shoulder camera bag with me like the Kata Hybrid-537 or a plain messenger bag, the handy Clik Wrist Strap would suffice. But when I use a camera backpack like my Tenda Messenger , I do find the need to use a neck strap. But mirrorless cameras do not need, heavily padded, broad camera straps. So looking around a camera shop, I found the Kata DL C-strap , designed for mirrorless or light cameras in mind.
