Backpack Photography Batanes June 2010 from Ferdz Decena on Vimeo.
Backpack Photography Batanes Travel and Outdoors Workshop has just ended. Here are video highlights of the Workshop held last June 24-27, 2010. It was 4 days and nights of waking up before the sun, humidity and power outages. But the refreshing views, great weather through out and the company of enthusiastic group of photographers with sunny and cheerful air made it all worthwhile.
Big thanks to Canon for lending the Selphy Printer and a prize, a couple more prizes from Eagle Creek, Olympus for providing each of us Caps to use under the heat and Sony for lending the bloggie.
All videos were taken with the Olympus E-PL1

Batanes on PrimeDrug Calendar 2010

There was a time I would look at calendars and admire the photos there. I would skim through the pages and enjoy looking at the pictures. There was even a time I kept a calendar past its marked year because I enjoyed the photos that much. Anyways, I finally got a chance to be on a calendar. I don’t know the pharmaceutical brand (I heard PrimeDrug is a subsidiary of a German Brand) but I’m happy still that they liked the photo and used it.
My photo of Batanes opens at the start of the year in January 2010. I hope that harkens good vibes for the coming year, 2010.
On Assignment: Semi-Glamor Shoot in Batanes

A semi-glamor shoot in Batanes
I must admit, I rarely shoot glamor. I’m not that intimidated really to shoot glamor as its a strategic combination of light and location. But when you add a concept like “Fishing” into “Fashion” that’s when everything goes a bit haywire. Admittedly that’s a challenging concept for me, especially when the location is rugged Batanes. C’mon it’s a bit easy to do location shoots and just let the model pose in but add in fishing?
The Concept
Good thing Seair Inflight Art Director Jocas had some pegs to help out. Otherwise I had these crazy ideas of just doing a creative shoot of lady emerging from the water or a dyesebel (mermaid) on the rocks or a rogue Ivatan toughly carrying an 8pound amberjack on one hand while wearing a pretty dress and smiling on a camera. But no we didn’t do something as drastic as that. We just need a nice fishing setting, a model and the beautiful back drop of Batanes.

On Assignment: Shooting the Desperate Angler in Batanes for Seair Inflight

Seair Inflight June-July 2009 Inside TOC
I have to say big thank you to the guys at Seair Inflight Magazine (Mons, Jocas, Marge and Gisselle) for giving me the opportunity to shoot the cover and cover story feature for this issue. I wasn’t really confident that I’d pull this off because of the many circumstances that happened during the assignment days. Even the cover theme is bugging me a lot but we do have some pegs as a guide so what the hey. Here’s the rundown of days on assignment.
Coming Soon: Seair Inflight June-July 2009

Seair Inflight June-July 2009 Cover
This is a very special issue for me since it is actually my first cover work for Seair Inflight Magazine. The cover photo was shot in the beautiful rugged island of Batan in Batanes. This one was a really challenging assignment since it involves hours at the sea along ripping waves and some bad weather at times. I even got seasick and threw out my very heavy lunch on the first day. We originally had some other shoots for the cover but I also kinda like this one since it goes well with the title of the main story “Desperate Angler” written by Chip Childers . More details about it later, but for the meantime read on for the editorial note.
